stylish self-catering set in the heart of the Cotswolds

"We’re veterans of cottage holidays in Britain and this is one, of only 2 properties ever, that we have loved enough to want to return to.  This was our second visit to Merrivale Barn (we previously stayed in May 2009), and I’m sure it won’t be our last. It’s a real home from home that fills you with a sense of tranquility and warmth.

The cottage is very well appointed – tastefully and comfortably furnished, clean and well equipped, with a great log fire if you’re there in chilly weather (though the central heating is perfectly adequate!) It’s a lovely blend of traditional Cotswold cosiness and contemporary living, and the living areas are very spacious for the 6 people it accommodates.

The garden is really pretty, with a lovely outdoor eating space that is not overlooked by any of the nearby cottages. The garden leads directly onto a large paddock, and all the windows downstairs look out onto the garden or fields – it really is blissfully private.

In terms of things to do, Weston Subedge itself is very quiet, although the village pub is apparently due to re-open at some point (the developers were on site during our visit). But it’s very close to Chipping Camden and Broadway, and within easy striking distance of Stratford, Evesham and many other lovely villages and market towns. Lots of National Trust properties within easy reach too, and you’re spoilt for choice on good pubs and restaurants  – don’t miss a trip to the Fleece Inn, only a short drive away at Bretforton.
